| In
June 1968 a group of Sailors and Marines met aboard MCB Camp
Pendleton to form a sports officials association that could meet the
Special Services Intramural Sports Department need for sports officials; hence,
Margarita
Officials Association.
That small group of officials has evolved into
today's MOA,
a well-known, highly respected, professional organization of over 100
member. |

From the beginning, the MOA's
primary goal has been that of providing the highest quality sports
officials possible to all sports programs contracted. Initially
contracting only with MCB Camp Pendleton, for the past
19 years the MOA
has gradually added other programs. The MOA's
primary focus now is San Diego North County; however, the association
routinely provides officials to sports contests and special events
throughout Southern California. MOA
members officiate baseball, softball (both fast pitch and slow pitch)
and volleyball from the Youth level to the Adult level, High School to
Collegiate Division I, and International level (softball). Members are
routinely assigned to officiate District, State, Region, Sector, Area and National
Championships; several of our members serve on the Southern California ASA
Umpire-in-Chief Staff. The great weather of Southern California presents
our members with the opportunity to officiate nearly year round. The
busiest months of the year are March through July and September through
November; however, a limited number of assignments are
available during the other months. |
|
The MOA
is recognized as one of
the best amateur sports officiating
organizations in the nation
Keep in mind, amateur sports officiating is an avocation,
not a profession. Do a good job, but remember to always have FUN!
|
The
MOA
is a not-for-profit, membership organization existing for the sole purpose of providing sports officials to amateur sporting contest. To
this end the organization:
- Provides
training to advance the skills of sports officials.
- Facilitates
the contracting and assigning of sports officials to amateur
sports contest.
- Works
with sports administrators to provide qualified sports officials
to amateur sports contest.
- Maintains
the highest standard of sports officiating.
- Encourages
the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.
- Promotes
the welfare of amateur sports by working with organizations and
other sports officials' associations affiliated with amateur
sports.
