Letter from the President

Letter from Pete Davis, President

January 1, 2010

As our great Association enters into its 42nd season of providing eminently qualified sports officials for both softball & volleyball, we are embarking upon a new era in the manner & methodology in which we are organized, trained, & prepared to practice our avocation. However, as we utilize & employ the latest technologies, such as retooling & revamping our website, assigning by Arbiter, paying by RefPay, or teaching with interactive computer simulation, we must not lose focus of the core values & the “old school” ethos that have stood as the foundation of the Margarita Officials Association; specifically, I ask that each member rededicate themselves to upholding the honor & dignity of  the MOA above our individual wishes & desires; as such, each member has an inherent responsibility to demonstrate the highest level of self-discipline, responsibility & ethical standards in our interaction with fellow officials, the athletes we serve, & the public.

I am confident the “old timers” or Founding Fathers of the MOA would be proud to see that their idea (conceived aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in order to provide sports officials for the Special services program) has matured into the present day organization, with nearly 100 members, sound finances & a solid reputation for providing softball umpires & volleyball officials from the recreational level to the international level. Our continued success is directly attributed to the commitment, loyalty, dedication & professionalism of each of you, for without you, this great organization would cease to exist, yet as many of us have witnessed over the last few years, we, as an organization,  simply were not going to allow the MOA to fail. As such, each member is owed a debt of gratitude for “staying the course” because of what this organization stands for & represents. Due to your actions, we are again reclaiming our rightful place as one of the premier sports officiating organizations in the San Diego area.

In closing, I am honored, privileged & humbled to once again serve as President of the MOA; with your help & ideas, we will continue to serve & grow this great organization in the manner each of us will be most proud when we look back 42 years from today.

Pete Davis
President, MOA
